Es Vergeret
Cala Tuent, north west of Mallorca, also known for being at the heart of the Tramuntana range and near to the Lluc Monestry, with mountainous views (of the mountain or from the mountain) has attracted many excursions of holiday walkers to the island. No tour buses are allowed down on to the bay, reassuring that the natural charm has not been harmed (yet!). Es Vergeret, a restaurant situated above the bay,
The restaurant, Es Vergeret, in Cala Tuent is not only known for the wonderful paella, the scenic drive is just as amazing for the driver and the passenger. For miles and miles, the scenery and landscape kept me busy admiring the place. The numerous hairpin bends and narrow road requires full concentration from the driver. It is similar to many of those driving circuit tracks except that this is on the sides of the mountains that if you risk anything silly, your fate meets the sharp edges rock at the bottom of the fall. An hours drive to this restaurant is definitely worthwhile, knowing that the food will be more than rewarding.
Many questions were raised as to why such road was built. Until 1932 there were barely 20 habitants in the area. If travel is necessary then, they walked. Why was it built then? Was it an architect’s dream? Or, an intention for developing the villages in the area? Money laundering from one of the PP shark (if they did exist then)? For Cala Tuent, take a right turnoff from the winding road. A huge sign ensures that Tuent will not be missed. An hours drive to this restaurant is definitely worthwhile, knowing that the food will be more than rewarding.
Es Vergeret – situated on a slightly elevated terrain gives the view of the sea. When dining on the terrace, without anyone else, it emits peace and tranquility. When it is too cold or pouring with rain, the interior is just as inviting and welcoming, promising a view with the glassed window panes.
Eager to eat (and then review
) here is what we had for lunch.
Paella – Rice is just the right texture. Recipe for paella dish is similar to that of a clear chicken broth. Each household or individual has their own method or secret ingredient to produce such a flavorsome dish. Therefore, until I could envisage myself equipped with the skill to conjure this traditional Spanish dish, we are depending on dining in restaurants. In which of course I am more than happy to compromise. Here, they serve the best paella in Mallorca. Tantalizing, tasty and tempting!
Grilled calamari (Calamari a la Plancha) – The squid, big and juicy dressed in raw garlic and parsley. The texture is smooth and not rubbery indicating not overcooked (good!) but the grilled aroma and flavor is not indicative.
This drive is one of our day trips around the island that reminded me why I fell in love with Mallorca when I first visited this Balearic Islands.

I want to go there this summer, I just found this restaurant searching in google map. Was it expensive?
I think they are pretty average for Mallorca prices. The meal for four was an average of €25.00 per person with wine, olives and bread, 3 portion paella, squid dish, a plate of salad and coffee each. I think it would be a treat out. Let me know what you think.
Es Vergeret was a wonderful restaurant and in a very nice spot. Nice food and good prices. I’m glad I took your post as an advice and went for lunch.
I am glad that it has been good for you!
