Noodle King

We needed to pick up a parcel from the Deptford Bridge area. It was lunch time when we completed our task for the day. Thus, the greedy tummies and hungry eyes are out on search for something to eat.

What caught our interest was the Malaysian Restaurant (the green sign towards the right hand side of the picture). Unfortunately, it was closed and only operates at night. As a result, we went to the neighbouring restaurant, Noodle King. Only to know later that this was to be another episode of our queer dining experience.

It is not as sophisticated as the dining word projects. Noodle King, offers an a la carte menu with noodles and rice but also advertised an “All You Can Eat Buffet”, offering a variety of Chinese, Thai and Japanese dishes and chips. In modesty, we decided to have just one wok-noodle dish.

Nothing astounding (or worth blogging) about the dish but here is a photo for posterities sake.

The queer experience came upon when I ordered Green Tea. The waitress nodded and brought the tea intently. The aroma was definitely from a type of chinese tea. After a few sips, I could confirm that it was indeed Jasmine Tea. When I questioned about the tea, the waiter first insisted that it was Green Tea.

I laughed politely to which he then told me that Jasmine tea IS Green Tea. He insisted that it is one and the same. Then carried on supporting his thesis, explaining to me that many of their customers are served the same tea when they had ordered for Green Tea and had never complained. I did not agree with him and the waiter was forceful but polite enough to retrieve from the scene.

Back at home, I work on the googling for the difference and found that Jasmine tea is perfumed with Jasmine flower. The base of the tea could either be green tea or black tea. Green tea will never be Jasmine tea on it’s own.
