Sa Granja – Soller, Spain
Soller, is no doubt one of the most charming towns in Mallorca. Separated from the rest of the island by the Tramuntana mountains, meant that in days bygone the only way to communicate with the other side of the island was across the jagged range. Therefore, the main mode of transportation for sollerics in those days was by sea. Many went abroad, particularly to France in search for a living. Years later, they returned with their hard earned savings, still not having seen the other side of the mountains.
From Palma, driving through the mountains was my first journey into Soller. The grayish green color combination was such an eye pleaser. And slightly after the highest point is my first glimpse of the town. The Soller church standing tall and proud. Alternatively, through the tunnel, one can now reach Soller in a matter of minutes. Or, travel in style and take the 27km train ride from Palma. Constructed in 1912, the Soller-Palma train ride journeys through a narrow gauge track captivating the image of the mountainous terrain.
